First Day of School!

Dear Parents,

It’s almost here…the first day of school! I wanted to remind you that if you have a third grade student, please tell them to report directly to the cafeteria upon arriving in the morning. We will have staff near the school entrance and bus doors to remind them as well. If you are dropping your child off in the morning, you may arrive between 8:25 am and 8:35 am to do so. Children should exit the car on the sidewalk side (front-passenger side of the car). This will help to keep your children safe when exiting the car! Please note that tomorrow is an early release day. Students are dismissed at 1:15 pm (lunch is served).

We are looking for additional recess monitors–so if you are interested please email me or call the front office at 978-352-8616.

We are excited for the first day and look forward to seeing all of the students!

New Programs

 Science for Scientists:

With tremendous gratitude, we thank B.E.S.T. and New England Bio-Labs for sponsoring an incredible learning opportunity and partnership with “Science for Scientists” within our school. This will be a fifth grade science partnership with “Science for Scientists”. It is an opportunity to have two “Scientists in Residence” work with all of our grade five students for the entire school year two days per month. The scientists will be responsible for conducting lab experiments with the students that align with the pacing of the current curriculum. We are very excited to have this wonderful opportunity for our students and staff. For more information, please go to:

You no longer need to worry about “what day it is” as w e will be working with a Monday through Friday schedule this school year. Your child(ren) will have each specialist class once per week.

Enrichment Program:

In lieu of the Extended Studies program, we will offer an Enrichment Studies Program to all students. Our goal is to meet their unique needs and helping them to realize their intellectual, creative and academic potential. The opportunities we will provide include a curriculum that goes beyond the instruction that they receive in the standards-based, grade level subjects in their regular classroom settings. For six to eight weeks during the school year, every student will have the opportunity to participate in this program. The students will rotate to a different specialist teacher each day during this time period to work on one aspect of a multidisciplinary thematic unit.

Food Service & Nutrition:

Our school district has partnered with Whitson’s Culinary Group for our food service and nutrition in our cafeteria. Our kitchen staff will remain the same and your child’s lunch experience will be similar—but with some new improvements over the year! The “My School Bucks” online system will remain the same for your family.   You an access information and the September lunch menu by going to:   You can also contact Christopher Braden, our new Food Service Director at (978) 739-2800 ext. 4136 or by email at

Our technology use will continue to expand this year with the use of Google for Education. We are excited about this endeavor!

Blog: I will continue to have a Principal Blog. Please sign up for my blog by going to this link and entering your email on the left side of the blog at: Please note that by doing this you will receive emails from blog updates.

Facebook Page: I also have a Spofford Pond School Facebook page that will be ready on the first day of school. I plan to update parents about school events through this page as well as through my blog.

School Calendar

We will continue to have our online school calendar (using Google) to list upcoming events . It is currently “under construction” with our email transition. However, it will be up for the first day of school. There will continue to be a link on my blog– under the tab “Calendars” at the top of the blog. There will also continue be a link on the school website under the “Quick Links”.

Arrival & Dismissal

Our morning arrival and afternoon dismissal procedures have remained the same. However, for dismissal, it is important that parents stay in the car line. Parents should not be parking and getting out of cars during dismissal to pick up their child. Walking through the line of cars is a safety-risk and can cause confusion with the car lines. I will be outside during dismissal to monitor student and car safety. We will work diligently to allow for a quick, efficient and safe dismissal.

I have some homework for parents before the first day of school:

  1. Please also check the bus routes on our school website.
  2. Please also update (if needed) your My School Bucks (Nutri-Kids) account online to ensure that is set up for your child’s lunch (if they will be purchasing lunch).

I thank you and our School Committee for the continued support of our school. We are very excited about the new staff and programs that are provided to us. I look forward to a successful and rigorous learning year with your children.
