Food Drive at Spofford Pond School

We will be participating in food drive from October 30th to November 20th. We will begin this Friday with children making a non-perishable food donation if they wear halloween costumes or orange /black clothing.

Governor Baker’s non-profit youth organization Project 351 is running their annual Fall Service program to end hunger in the Commonwealth by raising awareness, resources, and food donations for hometown food pantries. Boxford Ambassador, Alex DiBlasi, will be using The Spofford Pond School as Boxford’s host site for non-perishable food donations which will be collected until Friday, November 20th.

Your much appreciated donations are for Our Neighbor’s Table ( in Amesbury.  Did you know that 1 out of 16 people in the Merrimack Valley grapple with hunger every night?  Our Neighbor’s Table is an invaluable resource for our area.  It has offered food assistance for decades to families in our surrounding communities. They have a Food Pantry which is stocked with groceries, hygiene items, and baby products and they host a weekly Wednesday evening dinner to over 150 hungry people!  They also deliver hot dinners to people who cannot get out and supply holiday meals to over 400 families every season.

Think Central – Math in Focus

All parents and students in grades 3-5 have access to Think Central, which is the online piece to our Math In Focus program.

With this site, when you click on My Library, you have access to the student edition of your child’s math textbook.   There are also Student Interactivities, which are video tutorials and math games for most chapters.   It also contains Math Background Videos that are an excellent resource for parents to watch if you are looking for more information about the Math In Focus Program techniques and philosophies.

Another good resource from the Think Central website is the glossary from the textbook.  This may help students when working with Math Vocabulary.  This can be found at the end of Volume B.

Every homeroom will have a designated area to store the candy.  All of the candy collected will be donated to Operation Troop Support, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping active military and veterans. The candy collected during this drive will be included in care packages to soldiers who are risking their lives overseas.
