GIRLS…IN…BALANCE

Feb 9:   Helping Girls Build Self-Kindness,

Middleton Health & Wellness Commitee is pleased to sponsor (February 9):

A SEMINAR FOR PARENTS

Howe-Manning Cafeteria: 7pm

It is now well established that today’s girls are more stressed out than ever before and worry about body image and fitting in. As early as age 5 girls can begin to worry about looking fat.

Major concerns for parents include: Anxiety, Poor Body Image and Low Self-Esteem, Eating Disorders, Weight Concerns, and Bullying/Dating Violence. Modern issues are also at play: over- scheduling, poor lifestyle habits, lack of sleep, and digital consumption, which can disruptimportant bodily rhythms needed to keep girls in balance. For girls in competitive sports, pressure to perform in all areas of life can add to stress. New neuroscience research on the adolescent brain illuminates some of things that go on with girls, including major miscommunications that can happen with mom and friends!

Parents can play a key role as their daughters’ transition from childhood through adolescence as role models for self-care and healthy body image, including being mindful of “fat talk” and appearance-related comparisons. Learn strategies and ease your mind.

This workshop is for you if you worry about the following with your daughter, now or in the future:

  • She has no self-confidence.
  • She hates her body.
  • She stresses about sports/school performance.
  • She is eating too much or too little.
  • We’re fighting a lot.
  • She is being secretive.
  • She is being bullied.
  • She has no friends.
  • She’s addicted to her cell phone.
  • She won’t talk to me.
  • I can’t do anything right!!
