Reminder..Yearbook Group Photos on Monday, May 2nd

FYI: Group activities pictures and new student portraits will be taken on Monday, May 2

Our yearbook photographer will be taking group pictures for the activities listed below on Monday, May 2, between 8:50 and 11am. A schedule is being pulled together and will be posted for your information in the next day or so. Students will be called to the cafeteria by group according to the schedule, so they should promptly report to the cafeteria when their group is called in order to be in the group picture.
This will be the only day for group activities pictures. If for some reason your child cannot be a part of this picture day, or accidentally misses the group photo, you may reach out to Juli Smith ( if you have personal photographs from the activity that would like to submit for the yearbook. We will do our best to try and include them but cannot retake group photos.

The Launch Night is a wonderful event for students to celebrate that achievement along with their peers from our neighboring communities. We would like to extend an invitation to the Spofford Pond School community to join us for this special evening. Congratulations to:

Spirit Day on Friday!

Friday’s Spirit Day is Fancy Day!  Students can dress up in their fanciest attire and bring  a $1.00 donation to benefit Ellie’s Hats.  This is a local organization that provides hats and more to children with cancer.  We hope to have a great participation!

Senior Citizen Luncheon



The chorus and band held a wonderful luncheon for Boxford’s Senior Citizens on April 14th!  It was a huge success and the children were gracious hosts and hostesses for this special event! Many thanks to Mrs. Monty, Ms. Horgan, and our parent volunteers for organizing this wonderful event!



Every Spring, the PTO faces the challenge of filling open board positions. Below are the current positions available.   If you have any interest in becoming more involved with your school, this is a great way to do it!

Sarah Herda and Julie McGee, current PTO Co-Presidents, would be happy to discuss the positions with you if you have any questions. They can be reached at or We have also indicated who the current board member responsible for the position if you’d like to contact them directly as well.


  1. Two Co-Presidents – Sarah Herda and Julie McGee (2 Board Votes)
    This shared position requires individuals who have a combined interest in project management, administration and community outreach. Together, they oversee all PTO projects throughout the year, as well as working with the principals to understand the needs of both schools.
  2. The Communications Team has the following three positions available   – Sarah Herda and Treacey Sudak (1 Board Vote)
    These important positions would best be shared between three people who have an interest in writing and computers. The Communications team would be responsible for writing and implementing Constant Contacts, providing PTO content for school newsletters, creating Wufoo links and reports, updating the website, and contacting the press, amongst other various tasks. It has been divided into the following three positions:

    • Back pack flyers and Sandwich Boards
    • Invitations, Wufoo, Mail Chimp and the Website
    • Making Copies
  3. Spring Fundraising Chair – Tara Donnell and Jill Fogarty (1 Board Vote)
    Next fall the fundraising chair position will be divided into Fall and Spring. The Spring fundraising chair will organize the Annual Spring Fundraiser, which is typically a themed evening and silent auction. Interest in fundraising, community outreach and party-planning, is not necessary but would be helpful. There are many current board members who can help with the planning, as well as many parent volunteers who will join the committee for this event.
  4. Curriculum Enrichment for Spofford – Sara Pedersen (1 Board Vote)

This person works closely with the administration and the members of the Board to identify and purchase curriculum enrichment opportunities at all grade levels at Spofford Pond School. This person should have good interpersonal skills, solid financial and organizational skills, and a passion for unique and enriching educational experiences that our students will enjoy. Works closely with the Curriculum Enrichment Chairperson for Cole School.

Middleton’s 9th Earth Day Festival, May 1st


With the generous offer from Creighton Pond Day Camp, the Earth Day Festival will again be held in this beautiful location on Essex Street in Middleton on Sunday, May 1st from 1-4 in the afternoon. North Shore Nature will be joining us for the first time and will conduct nature excursions and learning. Mass Fish and Wildlife will again be teaching children to fish, adults and families will have an opportunity to paddle on the pond in a rowboat or canoe, and the beaver lodge, dam and newly felled trees will enable children to safely view and learn about the impact of beavers in our area! A giant friendly “beaver” will be roaming the grounds offering great photo opportunities also! This year we will include a mealworm and compost demo, science demos from Masco and Essex Tech environmental students, insect and pond exploration areas, nature hikes, crafts, owl pellet dissection, toddler duck water run game and so much more! Smokey the Bear will also make an appearance as long as no forest fires send him off to work! Cub Scouts will also be doing an exciting activity. Eco-friendly raffles will include a huge stone birdbath, hand-crafted bird houses, mulch, firewood, painted tire swing, children’s eco-basket, camp sessions, and many other items! Food will also be available at nominal cost.

The entire event and parking is FREE. With generous donations from member Kosta Prentakis and Richardson Green the Stream Team was able to purchase needed supplies for the event. The Middleton Stream Team is a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental awareness and appreciation that ultimately leads to stewardship and protection of The Ipswich River, its tributaries and the surrounding wetlands and watershed of which Middleton is built upon. Heavy rains will postpone the event to May 15th. To learn and have fun outdoors in a beautiful and natural setting, join us on May 1st. There are activities for all ages! Save the date!

PARCC Schedule & Headphones

Dear Parents,

We will begin our PARCC testing tomorrow with grades 5 and 6.  By then end of the week, each grade level will have started their PARCC testing. Please be sure to send in a set of earbuds or headphones with your students tomorrow morning.  Please label them to ensure that we properly return them with your child after our PARCC testing.   A good night’s sleep and a good breakfast is helpful for all students as we complete our testing this month.  I have included the PARCC testing schedule below for your reference.
