Tri-Town Council asks…What’s in YOUR lifepack? Fill it with Assets!

January’s Life is Good Superpower is Authenticity! AND the TTC Asset Connection is…

Asset #38: Self Esteem – Child likes her/himself, feels valued by others, and is proud of the person s/he is.

TTC Asset Tip: What is self-esteem REALLY? For some there is a misperception of what self-esteem really means. Self-esteem is about feeling strong and secure inside oneself. It means feeling good about one’s values and beliefs, skills and abilities, how one treats others and the good thing one does. Self-esteem does NOT mean thinking about oneself all the time, bragging, or showing off. It’s not about flattery or empty praise.

TTC Tips for building the Self-Esteem Asset in children:

  • Tell them you love them – regularly and often!
  • Spend time with them.
  • Find something special about them to celebrate.
  • Help them learn new things.
  • Focus on their strengths.
