Have you ever been so engaged in something that it felt like hours passed like seconds? Have you ever experienced being in the “zone” where you are completely absorbed in whatever it is you are doing — whether it be something physical, creative or work related? If you have, then you have experienced FLOW a.k.a “the zone”. Flow is exactly that feeling of being totally engrossed in whatever it is you are doing that you lose all sense of time – you feel completely in the moment…Kids can experience flow too, and when they do, those Commitment to Learning Assets (among others) are strengthened!
TTC Asset Tip: Help foster “flow” in your child’s life and yours too!
Foster a calm, relaxed environment.
Engage in what brings out delighted fascination. If you’re not sure what that is, fool around with something hands-on. Tinker, paint, write, sculpt with clay, take something apart, dance, experiment—-whatever feels enticing.
Let go of worry and pressure.
Welcome mistakes as well as challenges.
As much as possible, don’t interrupt.
Remember that flow isn’t really separate from play.
