Boxford School Committee October Update –

The Boxford School Committee met on Thursday, October 11th. Topics discussed included the near completion of the Spofford Pond window and playground projects, a budget update, participation in the Green Community Initiative to reduce energy usage by 20% within 5 years, a school safety conference attended by members of the BSC, and the Design 39 school site visit for some Boxford teachers and administrators.

The discussion on school start times continues with the Masconomet School Committee. Stay tuned for more details from this collaborative subcommittee in the near future.

BSC members visited Spofford Pond School for lunch this week. A $3.00 meal includes a protein, grain, fruit, vegetable, salad bar, and a milk. Popcorn chicken or a hamburger with sweet potato fries were the entrée options the day we visited.

The food served was cooked properly and the produce fresh, making this an appetizing meal. The kitchen staff were friendly, helpful, with a system in place for a variety of dietary restrictions and food intolerances.

New this year are the à la carte items that are USDA approved and on the John Stocker Institute A list.

Students may purchase up to two à la carte items daily for $0.75 each. Typically available are snack items such as chips, rice krispie treats or cookies, and water bottles. You may view your student(s) purchase from your Whitson’s account and parental controls may be added to student accounts. Please contact Steven Greenberg at the district office for further questions on the food service at either Harry Lee Cole or Spofford Pond Schools.

The TTU Parent University was Saturday October 20th at Howe Manning School in Middleton from 8:30a.m. – 12:15p.m. Parent University was an opportunity for parents to learn about ways to support their student in their education. More details about this event will be discussed at our next meeting.

Our next meeting is on Thursday, October 25th. Upcoming agendas and meeting minutes can be found at .
