Spring Greetings from the Boxford School Committee

The BSC has been focused on the 2020 Budget and Capital Planning during the February and March meetings. Over the fall and winter, the administration, staff and teachers build the budget based on student needs. It is then shared with school committee members and finance committee liaisons and deliberation begins.  The BSC goals which guide our decision process are:

  • The Boxford Elementary Schools pursue educational excellence by creating and sustaining a learning community – students, teachers, and family support – that challenges its members to reach their full intellectual, social, creative, emotional and physical potential.
  • The Boxford School Committee will exercise fiduciary responsibility while enhancing our educational programs and facilities, and communicating future capital needs.
  • The Boxford School Committee will strengthen our partnership with the Boxford community by articulating our mission and vision in order to continually improve the educational experience of our students.
  • The School Committee will communicate its goals and activities through a variety of channels to raise community awareness of what is happening in our schools.

The 2020 Boxford school budget maintains a level of funding to ensure quality education for our students. Included in the budget are an additional Kindergarten, an increase in Physical Education staff at Cole, an increase in the Assistant Principal staff at Spofford Pond, and a permanent substitute teacher shared between both schools.  Other items of note are a commitment to addressing facilities needs for all students through ADA work, continued professional development related to reading programs, and slight increases in supporting staff for student needs. The Capital Plan request for the upcoming year is for replacement of roof top HVAC units at Cole school. The Public Hearing for the budget is scheduled for Thursday, April 11th, at 7:00pm, at Cole School. All are welcome.

Other current happenings: Eight staff members traveled to Design 39, an innovative public school in California. This is the second group from our district to visit this school. They will share details from this professional development outing at a future BSC meeting.

The 2019-2020 School Year calendar has been approved. The first day of school for students in grades 1-6 is a half day on Wednesday, August 28th. The first day of kindergarten is Tuesday, September 3rd.

Our next meeting is on March 28th, 2019. Upcoming agendas and meeting minutes can be found at http://www.tritownschoolunion.com/node/boxford-school-committee.

A Few Photos from our Grade Six Science Fair!

We held our annual science fair on Friday with our grade six students.  We thank our teachers for putting this together with the students!  We also want to express our gratitude to all of the volunteer judges who spent several hours with us on Friday judging the student projects! The students worked very hard on their projects and we are very proud of them!  These are just a few photos from this fantastic event!
